S. MAREK MULLER, PHD
Rhetorician for the Animals
ABOUT ME
I am an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at Texas State University. I teach and research in the areas of rhetoric, media, and environmental communication. My work addresses the competing - and often contradictory - arguments surrounding animal rights, animal ethics, and "alternative" food politics.
My book, Impersonating Animals, was published by the Michigan State University Press in 2020. My journal articles have appeared in outlets such as Rhetoric & Public Affairs, Environmental Communication, and American Studies. In addition, my freelance science & environmental writing has been published by groups such as The Conversation, Environmental History Now, and Faunalytics.
As an educator, I not only teach college classes, but also guest lecture for continuing education workshops. I am available as a communication consultant for animal-oriented groups interested in best practices in argumentation and persuasion. I am also available as a guest speaker for current events in food, politics, and culture.
